My (mt) Upgrade Hell!

I noticed that MediaTemple upgraded to their (gs) interface/plans yesterday. I was very excited, I’m a loyal customer of MediaTemple, I used to think they were just a ‘fad‘ but their support really is unbeatable, though a bit pricey; the features and support you get is worth a lot more than you pay.

Upon upgrading i was told to wait 10 hours and come back for the first step, then the second and third step were completed pretty instantaenously. I then went to bed knowing my data was a bit more safe. What I didn’t know was that all my website database connections were broken and that my email program was re-downloading all the files that were on the server (I tell my email program to keep the emails on the server so I can webmail when im out and about).

So a word of caution, Upgrade.. but remember to change ALL your passwords and be ready to redownload your mail.

Subnote

Sigh, Just as my portfolio got CSS Mania’d so i’ll miss those hits.

    Zach,
Sorry you had a couple of headaches. We’ve been burning the mdinight oil to make sure the migrations would be painless for most. There are some great KB articles and the migraton emails should have covered a lot of potential painpoints. But, if you had some things go boom and they weren’t covered in our docs drop me a line so I can make corrections to our migrations docs and procedures!

Thanks for hanging in there and I think you’ll love being on the (gs) Grid-Server

    Cheers,

    Alex,

    Thanks for the comment :)
I’m a happy (mt) customer really so these are just minor headaches. Just thought i’d warn people.

I like the automatic database host updates in the config files. You don’t have support for ExpressionEngine config updates by the way which I think you should. Also, due to the password not being on file I changed my password yet all the config’s stuck with my old password. Maybe automagically do that or give a checkbox to do so?
